Welcome back Everyone and Happy New Year, and especially a big welcome to our newcomers. We will begin our first week back at school with a quick reminder of our ground rules within the Montessori classroom. The children will have a chance to settle back into their routine & look around the classroom – by observing our display boards they will hopefully guess our new themes for this term.08/01/2018 Introduction to the Montessori
15/01/2018 – 22/01/2018 Architecture / Construction
What an exciting theme to start off with, one full of imagination! For the next two weeks we are going to learn about architecture. This topic offers a world of possibilities for learning all sorts of things, in or out of the classroom. When children design and create structures, they draw upon many different skills and fields of knowledge without even realising. We are going to find out about some of the most famous buildings in the world, for example The Pyramids or The Eiffel Tower. What are they made of or how tall are they? We will learn some new words like Skyscrapers. How do they stand up? How tall can they be built? We will also use our own imagination to construct using new materials and using old materials in new ways.
We will try to some experiments that relate to our previous theme about architecture. We already know that the children love to experiment so let’s make this fun. We will learn about gravity or use our imagination with spaghetti and marshmallows. We will explore different materials like metal, wood or plastic to check if they’re soft or hard, light or heavy, smooth or rough.
05/02/2018 Exploring Materials
This week we will be exploring different materials like paper, clay, sand...We will be making papier-mâché balls from balloons, covering them in layer of newspapers, waiting for them to dry...and popping the balloon inside! Clay is a fantastic material to play and experiment with. It’s slippery and squishy. Let’s get our hands messy! We will also get crafty with an easy to make salt dough recipe! Salt dough is easy to work with, it’s soft and squidgy!
19/02/2018 Healthy Eating
This week we will be talking about healthy eating. To encourage our children to eat a nutritious and well-balanced diet at an early age, is important for many reasons. We need to ensure that they get their vitamins and minerals in their diet to develop well. We will discuss this week the different food groups such as carbohydrates, proteins, dairy, starch, fruit and vegetables. The children can make their own choices of food and we can talk about if their choice of food is good or not so good for them. We will also discuss the importance of eating lots of fruits and vegetables rather than sweeties. Who is up for some tasting different fruits and veggies?
26/02/2018 World Book Day and Stories
On World Book Day (Thursday 01/03/2018) everyone can dress up as their favourite book character! The staff will be in their favourite characters too!!! We will be exploring some of our favourite books.
05/03/2018 Kind hands
This week the children will be encouraged to express themselves and become confident in all they do, to use their words to express their feelings and opinions. Recognising this helps everyone to understand other people’s feelings and become more caring towards others. During this week the children are encouraged to use kind and gentle hands as well as kind words with each other. We will use role-play to emphasise how to play and be friendly towards other children. By the end of the week we will link all the kind things our super mums are doing for us and we will give them a little treat to celebrate "Mother’s day" and show our gratitude and appreciation.
12/03/2018 - 19/03/2018 - Fairies, Wizards and Dragons
During these two weeks we will be navigating in the fantastic world of Fairies, Wizards and Dragons! Developing our imagination and creativity. We will listen to stories, make believe and use our magic wands to make wizarding spells. We will create extraordinary stories and memories, hopefully lots of outside play in our fairy garden!
Please join us for our Easter Egg hunt on Wednesday 28 March 2018!
