WPMS Curriculum Personal and Social Development
The Montessori method is ideal in helping children develop both personally and socially. Its teaching methods draw heavily on the concepts of independence and respect for others and for property. Daily "Circle Time" brings the children together to discuss aspects of their lives and experiences, embracing different cultures and beliefs. Children become confident in expressing themselves, but always respecting the right of others to voice different views.
Role play is an important part of a child's development, and although not a strictly Montessori activity, is embraced by WPMS as a means of developing and also having fun! Mixed age classes are a feature of the Montessori system, encouraging the elder children to assist the younger children in activities and play, thus developing co-operation skills. Manners and consideration are insisted upon at all times, meaning that tantrums and disruptions are few and far between. Communication, Language and Literacy |
