WPMS Curriculum

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Much of the work time of the children is taken up with projects designed to investigate and explore the world around us.  We utilise a great deal of Practical Life equipment (the mainstay of the Montessori Philosophy) in our project work, where possible using real life equipment rather than toys. 

Much emphasis is placed on the similarities and differences between cultures, and children are encouraged to share their own experiences, and explore those of others through questioning and discussion.    The children are actively encouraged to learn through experience and experiment, as well as through resources such as book and Information technology.

Ideas are introduced covering topics as diverse as History, Geography, the Environment and the Life Sciences, along with more creative aspects through Arts and Crafts activities, cooking and tasting.  This provides an excellent chance for parents and carers to come in to the School to join in and help with the children's development.

Trips relating to our project work also help the children link what they discover in the classroom to the outside world.  We are always very welcome of assistance from parents and carers on these Outings.
